The Nisga’a Nation has officially declared the results of its November 6, 2024, election. Eva Clayton has been elected President with 511 votes. In the race for Secretary-Treasurer, Charles M. Morven won with 873 votes, while Alvin J. Azak was elected Chairperson of the Council of Elders with 1,011 votes. Debra F. Febril has been chosen as the new Chairperson, receiving 621 votes.
For the Nisga’a Urban Local Executive Representatives, Clifford Morgan won in Prince Rupert/Port Edward with 157 votes, while David T. Griffin Jr. emerged victorious in Terrace with 137 votes.
In New Aiyansh, four village councillors were elected, with Leonard J. Guno and Noah R. Guno among the top vote-getters. The election for Chief Councillor in Gitwinksihlkw was closely contested, with Peter R. Lambright taking the position.
In Laxgalts’ap, Sheldon J. Martin was elected Chief Councillor, while Peter Leeson, Matthew Bright, Rod Davis, Fred McKay, Kevin McKay, and Pamela Wright were chosen as village councillors. The Chief Councillor position in Gingolx went to George Alexcee, and five new village councillors were also elected.
The election results reflect strong community engagement across the Nisga’a Nation, with a clear mandate for those elected to serve in various leadership positions.
