We discuss a new series on APTN, Ocean Warriors: Mission Ready. “This 13-episode documentary series follows four First Nations that have joined forces to form Canada’s only Indigenous Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary (CNCGA). These highly trained Indigenous men and women put their lives on the line at sea for any emergency in their territory along British Columbia’s rugged coastline.”

In this conversation, Steve, the creator of the series Ocean Warriors, discusses his background and journey in storytelling. He shares how the Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary and Rescue was formed and the importance of their work in saving lives along BC’s coast. Steve highlights the mental and physical preparation required for the job and the value of every human life. He also explains the significance of the paddle song used in the series and the impact it has on viewers. Steve concludes by discussing his future projects and the importance of taking care of one’s spirit.
