For the first time, the BC Assembly of First Nations have re-elected a regional chief for a third term.
Regional Chief Terry Teegee, a member of the Takla Nation and living on the Lheidli T’enneh reserve near Prince George, won by acclamation.
Elected to the board, Wet’suwet’en member Chief Maureen Luggi, Brian Assu of the We Wai Kai, and Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc.
Youth representatives have been found in Kyle Alec of the Penticton Indian Band and Crystal Starr Lewis of the Squamish Nation.
Those elections came during the BCAFN’s 20th annual general meeting which wrapped up last Thursday.
That meeting also saw Chiefs in the Assembly debate and pass 25 resolutions relating to equitable funding, and support for a draft tripartite agreement on conservation and several other key issues.
