Much-anticipated redevelopment work has finally gotten underway at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake.
Originally announced in 2020, the $367 million project will see the construction of a new three-storey addition to the hospital.
Once completed, it will bring 25 new beds to the hospital, putting the new total at 53, including 36 surgical inpatient beds.
It will also feature a new mental health and substance-use inpatient unit with eight beds, a patient seclusion room, and a renovated oncology unit.
A new emergency department will also be added, complete with two trauma treatment bays, an ambulance carpot, and separate public entrance.
Expansions are also in store for the maternity and women’s health units, as well as the pharmacy.
Construction will be completed in two phases by Graham Design Builders LP, with the first expected to wrap-up in 2026, and the second in 2029.
