A proposed Nisga’a Nation-led LNG project is a step closer to fruition after receiving export approval from the Canada Energy Regulator.
Planned for Pearse Island, west of Gingolx, Ksi Lisims LNG is the result of a partnership between the Nation and two LNG developers.
Last week, the CER approved the project’s application to export up to 22.4 billion cubic metres of LNG per year over the next 40 years.
But, approval must still be granted by Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, before an export license can be issued.
Currently, the project is in the Readiness Decision phase of its Environmental Assessment, and is tied up in a dispute with the Lax Kw’alaams Band.
In October, the Environmental Assessment Office entered into a dispute resolution process, after the Band brought forward a number of issues.
Their concerns mainly centre around the environmental viability of the Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission pipeline which would supply the project.
