Long-time Terrace resident Barry English is getting provincial recognition in honour of his selflessness and dedication to his community.
English is among 15 recipients of this year’s Medal of Good Citizenship, which recognizes individuals for the sacrifices they make to benefit others.
In the last 4 years alone, English has raised nearly $80,000 for the Northern Animal Rescue Alliance, solely by collecting recyclables.
In addition to driving around the community to collect returnables, English converted his garage into a 24-hour drop-off for returnable goods.
After collecting the products, he washes them, sorts them, and cashes them in, donating every cent to the NARA.
In addition, English fosters the oldest and most unwanted of the Alliance’s dogs, and volunteers shoveling driveways for seniors and those with disabilities.
Despite recently undergoing surgery for a life-threatening illness, English continues to volunteer up to 10 hours a day mentoring children, and helping animals in need.
