Emergency Department services at St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof will reopen at 6 pm today, March 26, two hours earlier than previously announced. Northern Health is working to fill vacant shifts, aiming to resume services even earlier if possible. Residents in Vanderhoof requiring life-threatening emergency care, such as chest pains or difficulty breathing, should call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest facility. For non-urgent needs, the NH Virtual Primary & Community Care Clinic is available from 10 am to 10 pm at 1-844-645-7811, and HealthLink BC (8-1-1) can provide advice. Additionally, the First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day program is available for Indigenous residents.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Department at Fort St. James Hospital will be closed from 4 pm today, March 26, until 8 am tomorrow, March 27, due to staffing shortages. As in Vanderhoof, anyone experiencing life-threatening conditions should call 9-1-1 for transport. Non-urgent care can be accessed through virtual services.
