Northern BC’s first official passport office is finally set to open up later this month.
In November, Ottawa announced their intent to begin offering express, urgent and 10-day in-person passport services in Prince George.
That came after months of pressure from Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach.
Last August, Bachrach chastised the Federal Government for their inability to process remote applications within a reasonable amount of time.
But the key argument was the fact that many northerners needed to travel upwards of 17 hours to access in-person services.
Beginning on April 25th, residents will be able to access 10-day services at the Service Canada office in Prince George between 8:30 and 4:00 on weekdays.
Those looking for urgent next-day pick-up will still need to travel to Vancouver.
