Natural gas has begun flowing at the Wilde Lake Compressor station as the Coastal GasLink pipeline surpasses the 85 percent completion mark.
Made up of three compressor units and four metering stations, the facility will serve as the starting point for the pipeline.
Once the pipeline is completed, the facility will measure incoming gas before compressing it for the 670 kilometre trip to Kitimat.
While it won’t flow to the rest of the pipeline quite yet, the early introduction of gas allows CGL to prepare for the transition to operation.
It will also allow them to conduct further tests at the site, and to decommission the temporary generators powering the station.
According to CGL’s March construction update, the project is now 85.5 percent finished, with construction nearing 83 percent completion.
