BC Hydro has issued an Expression of Interest to help gauge the need for new electrical transmission infrastructure on the Northcoast.
With the region experiencing significant industrial growth in recent years, the demand for clean energy has seen a corresponding increase.
In order to increase capacity in the north, BC Hydro is already constructing a series of capacitors connecting Prince George and Terrace.
Once completed, that project will boost transmission capacity in the region by 60 percent over current levels.
But, even still, the project will only meet short-term demand, and does not address additional loads as industry continues to expand.
Through the EOI, they hope to gain a better understanding of where demand is highest, and where infrastructure is most needed.
Submissions are being accepted through April 11th of this year.
